In 1982, Bologna became the first Italian city to grant a municipal space to an association advocating for the rights of gay, bisexual and transgender people<\/strong>: the Circolo XVIII giugno, named in honour of the \u201cStonewall riots\u201d. The association was given a space in what is still known today as the Cassero di Porta Saragozza<\/strong>, recognising the importance of LGBTI communities within the city\u2019s civic life and associative fabric.<\/p>The tour also tells the story of the first trans person in Italy to be elected to a municipal council, in 1995<\/strong>.
