Pilastro: A Community Map, a Story to Explore

Discover the Pilastro neighbourhood of Bologna through its history and the voices of those who have lived in it, passed through it and helped shape it. Our association is based here, and we have several projects aimed at engaging with the local community and telling the story of its development and transformation since 1966, the year of its official foundation.

IAM – Intersectionalities and more APS presents the Historical and Social Community Map of Pilastro, a tool for discovering and telling the story of a part of Bologna through its places, transformations, memories and the people who have been and continue to be part of it.

The map was created with the aim of highlighting Pilastro’s social history and offering a narrative of the neighbourhood that goes beyond stereotypes and the representations most commonly associated with it. It is a journey through the memory and present-day reality of an area shaped by major social and urban transformations, where the everyday experiences of those who live there are a fundamental part of its identity. These experiences help portray a more authentic image of the area, one that is not shaped by narratives that are often partial or far removed from reality.

A Story Made of Places and People

The Historical and Social Community Map allows you to explore Pilastro through a variety of points of interest and stories, connecting the neighbourhood’s spaces with the events, experiences and transformations that have shaped them.

Streets, buildings, meeting places and public spaces thus become starting points for telling the story of a community and its transformations over time.

The map is intended to be an open and shared tool, capable of highlighting the richness and complexity of Pilastro and contributing to the creation of a collective memory of the neighbourhood.

Geo-Exploring Pilastro

The map also serves as the starting point for a geo-exploration tour of the area: a walking route through the neighbourhood’s streets, offering the opportunity to experience first-hand the places and stories that characterise it.

Through geo-exploration, the neighbourhood is observed and narrated starting from its physical space and the traces it contains, connecting what we see today with the people, events and transformations that have shaped the history of Pilastro.

Getting to Know a Place Through Its Community

The Historical and Social Community Map of Pilastro and the geo-exploration tour invite us to look at the neighbourhood not simply as an urban space, but as a living place, shaped over time by the relationships, experiences and stories of the people who live there.

It is an opportunity to walk through Pilastro, listen to its memories, observe the transformations of the area and discover an important part of Bologna’s contemporary history.

Come and explore Pilastro through its places, its stories and its community.
