Who we are

IAM – Intersectionalities and more APS is an association founded in Bologna in 2019, committed to promoting a more inclusive, equal and discrimination-free society.

IAM works from an intersectional perspective, with a specific focus on gender and LGBTI+ issues, recognising that different forms of discrimination can intersect and create specific and compounded forms of vulnerability.

The association operates across Italy, developing projects, activities and partnerships with organisations and networks that share its values and goals.

Our approach

Intersectionality is at the heart of IAM’s work.

It means looking at people’s experiences by considering the ways in which different dimensions — such as gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, background, social and economic circumstances, and other factors — can intersect and contribute to specific forms of discrimination.

For IAM, adopting an intersectional approach means listening to people, recognising the complexity of their experiences, and developing responses that take into account the multiple dimensions that shape them.

IAM develops awareness-raising, training, project development and support activities for individuals, communities, institutions and organisations.

Our work focuses in particular on:

Rights, Equality and Inclusion

Intersectionality and Diversity

Prevention, Education and Awareness

Networks and Partnerships

A network across territories

IAM believes in the power of networks and collaboration among different actors.

For this reason, the association is part of local, national and international networks working on issues related to human rights, inclusion, combating discrimination, gender and LGBTI+ rights.

The local and international dimensions of our work are constantly connected: sharing knowledge, experiences and good practices allows us to develop more effective tools and contribute to lasting social change.

Our vision

We envision a society in which every person can freely express and live their identity and relationships, without being constrained by stereotypes, prejudice or discrimination.

A society capable of recognising differences not as obstacles, but as an essential part of its richness and diversity.

This is what IAM works for: creating connections, supporting people, challenging inequalities and promoting truly inclusive spaces.
